湄簡 (แม่แจ่มMae Chaem) 位於清邁西南方的因他暖山區，距離清邁市中心約150公里左右，是一個清新純樸的小城。這裡的居民主要以種植稻米、玉米及織布維生。據說湄簡的女人從小就要學習織布，並且幾乎每戶人家都會有一架木製的傳統織布機。她們會為自己人生中最重要的三個場合準備最華麗的筒裙，即：寺廟禮佛、結婚，以及死後入殮。一般織品的繡紋只有單面好看，背面會看到雜亂的針腳，但湄簡女子最厲害的是可以繡出正反兩面都很漂亮的織紋，她們用純熟洗鍊的手法，將不同色線經緯交錯，舖陳出細緻典雅的傳統織紋繡面，每件都像藝術品一樣珍貴。 

Mae Chaem is located in Inthanon mountain of south-west Chiang Mai, away from Chiang Mai city about 150 km, this is a beautiful and peaceful little town. Most residents grow  rice, corn and weave cloth for a living, according to what I heard, Mae Chaem women have to learn to weave clothes from a very young age. Almost all the houses there have a clothmaking machine made from wood. They will prepare the most beautiful sarong for important occasions, like when they go to the temple, wedding and funeral( for the dead body). Most of the clothes other people weave are only beautiful on the outside, but in their town the clothes that they weave are beautiful on both sides. They are very skillful and the clothes they make are like a masterpiece.
